Malaysian Embassy in Rome, 8 August 2023 |
On August 8th, the inauguration event for the "Visit Melaka 2024" initiative took place at the esteemed premises of the Malaysian Embassy in Rome, Italy. The ceremony was presided over by YB Datuk Abdul Razak bin Abdul Rahman, the Executive Councillor for Tourism, Heritage, Arts & Culture of Melaka. Joining him was YBhg Tuan Ahmad Fuad bin Mohd Norzin, the Charge d'Affaires at the Malaysian Embassy in Rome.
This event was also attended by YB Datuk Hajah Kalsom bin Noordin, Melaka State Women, Family and Community Development Exc Puan Erne Binti Hamsah, General Manager “Melaka World Heritage”, Tuan Saari Bin Basiron, General Manager Melaka Ministry of Tourism and Ms. Vincenza Andreini, Tourism Malaysia Italy Marketing Officer.
This event is aimed at publicizing the image and attractiveness of the tourist destination of Melaka internationally.
The launch ceremony, graced by delegates from Italian and Malaysian embassies, tourism sectors, and media, featured Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman highlighting the significance of fostering collaboration to promote Melaka's cultural richness, heritage, and art. The emphasis was placed on enhancing mutual understanding and cultural exchange between Melaka and Italy. The scope for collaboration in art, architecture, and traditional arts was underlined, promoting joint initiatives between the two nations.
The event was brought to life by captivating performances of Malay songs and dances, including Zapin Madah Pusaka and Melaka Joget. The festivities culminated with a presentation of Joget Lambak, a dance deeply rooted in Melaka's cultural identity. This performance was masterfully executed by the student ensemble from INSWA – Institut Warisan Melaka, under the guidance of their instructor Noriah Ahmed, a Working Committee Member of CIOFF – MALAYSIA (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts).
After a week-long tour in Sardinia, Malaysia's enchanting melodies, rhythms, and traditional movements found their way to the heart of Rome.
Thus, it was fitting to conclude this event with a photoshoot set against the backdrop of Rome's ancient history, against iconic landmarks like the Arch of Constantine and the Colosseum – an evocative merging of two rich traditions.
