Stories from Bandung (4): Galih & Tya

Overcoming the limits of death.

Galih is a well-known photographer from Bandung, a senior photographer who hosted my photography lesson in his association in Bandung. He has a beautiful library of photo books, and among his many books, he also has a very special book Deus Providebit. There is only two copies left of this book, and he gave me the penultimate.

It is a book dedicated to his wife, Christine Listya (Tya), who passed away on 23 December 2015, during giving birth of their second child. It's a very sweet book with his wife's blog parts, lots of photos of their lives together, including photos of the funeral and their children, friends messages after death.

But it's not a tragic book. It's very sweet, reminds me of the magnificent work of Araki with her beloved wife, Yoko, who died of cancer in his hands.

Tya was very Christian, and her dream was to visit Rome, so some titles in the book are in Italian. As soon as I go back to Rome I will try to bring this book to Saint Peter and throw a picture there, for Tya.

Thank you kang Galih for this wonderful book that teaches us how to sublimate pain with art. To try to overcome the limits of death.

"Dunia tidak bicara. Dunia tidak menyapa. Tapi tidak dengan dunia saya" (Tya)
